Carta aos judeus

"Por mais que o governo de Israel e todos os que o apóiam tentem, não irei odiar a vocês, irmãos judeus. Ainda que as tropas israelenses matem centenas de crianças e pessoas inocentes, não irei desejar a morte de suas crianças nem jogar a culpa na totalidade de seu povo.
"Mesmo que manchem a Faixa de Gaza com o sangue de um povo, que também corre em minhas veias, metade árabe, não irei revoltar-me contra nenhuma etnia nem julgar que há raças melhores ou com mais direitos que outras, como quer nos fazer acreditar o governo israelense.
"Embora eu também queira ouvir as vozes judaicas de protesto contra o massacre dos palestinos, não deixarei de condenar os que se calaram diante do holocausto judeu. E mesmo que tomem à força a terra do povo árabe, não irei jamais apoiar o confisco dos bens do povo judaico, praticado há tempos pelo governo nazista.
"Por mais que o governo de Israel e todos que o apóiam traiam a tradição hebraica dos grandes profetas que clamaram por justiça e paz, ainda quero manter viva a esperança que eles anunciaram. Mesmo que joguem sua memória na lata de lixo, faço dos profetas do antigo Israel os meus profetas, pois o anúncio da justiça não distingue credos, nações ou etnias.
"Sei que muitos de vocês condenam a violência, não apóiam o massacre dos árabes palestinos, e gostariam que o governo de Israel respeitasse as decisões da ONU e o clamor da comunidade internacional pelo cessar-fogo imediato. Mas, gritem! Se sua voz não for ouvida, acreditar-se-ão com razão aqueles que ainda falam mal de seu povo.
"Mesmo que sejam deploráveis todos os anti-semitas, o silêncio dos judeus diante do massacre perpetrado pelo país que ostenta a estrela de Davi na bandeira pode ser usado como reforço para os argumentos torpes da superioridade racial.
"Há mais de 60 anos seu povo clamou ao mundo por solidariedade. Chegou o momento de retribuir, de mostrar que a solidariedade é um sentimento universal e não restrito a uma etnia. Não deixem o governo de Israel fazer esquecer o quanto vocês sofreram como vítimas, só porque agora ele é algoz e está protegido pela maior potência mundial, os EUA.
"Não permitam que a ação de Israel faça parecer que, apesar das manifestações mundiais de condenação, seu Estado se acredita o único que possui razão, pois era assim que o governo alemão pensava no tempo do nazismo.
"Estejam certos de uma coisa: independentemente do resultado da absurda campanha israelense ou qualquer que seja a posição de seu povo diante da violência e injustiça cometida por aquele país, não irei ceder à tentação do pensamento racista; não irei apagar da minha memória a catástrofe do nazismo e o sofrimento do povo judeu; não irei pensar que há povos que não merecem nação e que devem ser eliminados; não deixarei de condenar o anti-semitismo ou qualquer tipo de preconceito étnico.
"Continuarei defendendo a idéia de que todos, sem distinção, somos iguais, e temos os mesmos direitos: judeus, negros, árabes, índios, asiáticos etc. Manter-me-ei firme em minhas convicções, pois jamais quero me igualar aos governantes de Israel e àqueles que o apóiam."
Faço minhas as palavras de meu querido amigo Maurício Abdalla, companheiro no Movimento Fé e Política, professor de filosofia da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo e autor de reconhecida qualidade, como o comprova o texto acima, que tão bem traduz a indignação e a dor de tantos que testemunhamos a guerra do Oriente Médio.
Vários intelectuais judeus têm manifestado indignação frente às operações do Estado de Israel. Tom Segev, historiador e cientista político, escreveu no "Haaretz" que "Israel sempre acreditou que causar sofrimento a civis palestinos os faria rebelarem-se contra seus líderes nacionais, o que se mostrou errado várias vezes". O escritor Amos Oz sublinhou: "chegou o tempo de buscar um cessar-fogo", com o que concorda o escritor David Grossman e o ex-chanceler israelense Shlomo Ben-Ami.
